words from the artist

Cunningham has been sculpting stone for more than 30 years. Her accessible fairy tales have been seen by over 150,000 people, including visitors to the NFB Convention 2001. Her work is in many public and private collections, such as, The Museum of Outdoor Arts, Englewood, Colorado, and the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind.

"Ever since I can recall, I have expressed myself through my artwork. Although I've had years of experience painting, drawing, restoring and designing, sculpture has remained my passion and provided me the perfect medium for conveying my vision. I LOVE WORKING WITH THE STUFF OF MYTHS, FAIRY TALES AND DREAMS. This archetypal imagery resonates with diverse groups of people and encourages dialog and shared experience. I enjoy creating work that engages the viewers mind and heart, to induce a sense of mystery, excitement, connection and joy.

Through my artwork, exhibiting and teaching I have been given the opportunity to see the world from dramatically different perspectives. The insights I have received from the Deaf community have enriched my life beyond words. The extensive teaching I am doing with people that are blind has given me a whole new world to explore and it is filled with subtle nuances, mystery and excitement. It has enriched my conscious and subconscious mind with images that I don't believe I would have been able to understand without this experience." - Ann Cunningham
